Returns and lending period extension

Observe the lending periods. Return borrowed books on time or extend the lending period in order to avoid reminder procedures for which fees will be charged.

Returns

Borrowed items can generally return at all library locations or in the below mentioned Hanover libraries. Short Borrow or works that have been acquired through interlibrary loan can be excluded. For more information, refer to the circulation desks.

If you should loose a borrowed volume please immediately notify the library where you borrowed it so that you are not charged with any fees for reminders.

Lending period extension

The lending period is determined differently depending on the media and library; for 4 weeks, 2 weeks, 3 days or overnight/over the weekend.

It is possible for you to extend lending periods yourself up to 5 times for media which you have borrowed for 4 or 2 weeks if there are no other reservations on it. To do this log into the catalogue under the menu Borrower information and select the tab loans. Select the media for which you would like to extend the lending period and then click on the button Extend. You can view the updated overview of your borrowed items by selecting the tab Borrowed items again.
If necessary, a sixth lending period extension will be carried out by staff of the circulation desk.
After the 6th lending period extension, please bring any volumes which you still need to the circulation desk for a possible further extension.
The staff are available at the circulation desk on 0511 762-3376 for lending period extensions you would like to carry out by phone.

Note:
Lending periods for media which you have borrowed for 3 days or overnight/over the weekend cannot be extended. Please return these volumes on time.
Reminder procedure

Dunning procedure

Books not returned by the time the lending period expires will be subject to reminder charges. The amount of these charges is set according to the tariffs. If you receive a reminder, please take the opportunity to arrange a lending period extension in order to avoid further reminders. If that is not possible please immediately bring back the corresponding volumes to avoid a complete lending blockade.

Reminder charges can be paid when you return the volumes at the circulation desk, or you can pay the respective amount by bank transfer to the account:
account number: 106027634
account holder: University Library Hannover
bank code: 250 500 00
bank: Nord / LB Hannover.
Please insert Mahngebühren [Reminder charges] together with your library card number as reason for payment [Verwendungszweck].
