Proxy server

  • A proxy or "cache" server is an intermediate data store for Internet files. Following the initial fetching of the data, it can subsequently be accessed from this store, rather than having to obtain it from its original location each time.

  • Many publishers control access rights to the journals they provide online by means of a so-called TCP/IP check.

  • In the course of this access check procedure, use of a proxy server prevents the correct authorisation from being obtained.

  • It is therefore necessary to configure your chosen Internet Browser in such a way that it accesses the service directly, rather than via a proxy server.
