Frequent questions on SFX
What is the Journal Citation Report?
The Journal Citation Report shows which impact factor the requested journal has. The index counts the number of citations in other publications and so helps you to determine how important the title is in its subject area.
Is it necessary to type my request in every service field?
The search data are automatically transferred from the database research to the catalogue’s search field, the form for document delivery and the feedback form. You do not need to fill in the form separately.
Why doesn’t the SFX-Popup-menu open after I clicked the SFX-button?
Perhaps a pop-up blocker utility blocks the SFX menu window. If this is the case, please allow pop-ups for SFX in order to use SFX optimally.
Which databases provide SFX services?
We continually strive to present you as many information sources as possible. Unfortunately, not every database host or publisher provides the technical requirements to implement SFX. We will activate as many databases as possible in the course of time.
Can I use SFX outside the campus of the LUH?
Employees and students have the possibility to access most of the licensed databases and e-journals outside the campus, regardless of time and place. For further information please see:
Zugriff außerhalb des Campus-Netzes
Why do some databases not show the SFX button?
Perhaps you conduct your research in a database that is not SFX-enabled or does not enable a graphic display of the button. In this case, a text link is available (i.e. Linkingservices TIB/UB). It may also be that the provider locates the SFX button not in the list of hits but in a title’s full detail display. Locating the button depends on the defaults of the database provider.
Why is there sometimes more than one link to an article’s full-text?
In individual cases, overlappings for the subscriptions of e-journals are possible. Both links will lead to the demanded document. Sometimes, the reference period of a journal is held by different suppliers.
Sometimes a journal is part of different publishers’ collections. In these cases two links will be provided.

Why can’t I access the full-text even though I am supposedly authorised to do so?
Sometimes the available bibliographic information of an article is not expressive enough for SFX to generate a link to the requested article. Please enhance your inquiry by the use of the EZB Elektronische Zentralbibliothek (i.e. electronic journals library), respectively the TIB/UB’s online catalogue or the network catalogue GVK. It may be that a database host does not support links to the article level. In these cases you will be linked to an e-journal’s table of contents or to the journal’s homepage. From there you can access the article’s full-text.
Why does SFX show positive collection information for the TIB/UB, if the OPAC online catalogue clearly states that the volume is not available?
Perhaps you want to access a journal’s issue that is generally held by the TIB/UB, but lacks this special issue. SFX cannot retrieve that explicit licence information. Please check if the journal is accessible via the Gemeinsamer Bibliotheksverbund GBV (i.e. Common library network). If so, please use the online interlibrary loan by the GBV or the document delivery service Subito.
In which case is it wise to use the GBV interlibrary loan and when do I use the document delivery service Subito?
Please make use of the online interlibrary loan if you would like to order the literature for a minor feee and can wait approx. 2 weeks.
For further information on the services of the GBV, please see http://www.gbv.de/.
For a faster access to literature we recommend Subito. Libraries in Germany and the German speaking foreign countries such as Austria and Switzerland participate in this service. The order is subject to a charge (min. 5 €). The prices are determined by the way of delivery and the process time. For further information please see http://www.subito-doc.de.
