to the University Library.

The guidelines provide for the additional possibility of delivering dissertations and habilitation treatises in electronic format. The proper procedure to follow is laid down in the guide to producing and submitting theses in an electronic format.

Instructions for submission in an electronic format

Please first read the guidelines concerning the submission of dissertations, including attachments. Your work must be submitted as a ‘PDF file’.

The six copies, as both printed and electronic formats, must include:

  • A title page
  • A reverse page to the title page with a referee and date of the conferral of the doctorate
  • A summary in English and German
  • Three German and three English keywords relating to the content

Please note that the printed copies and electronic version should be the same in terms of page breaks.

The TIB/UB requires two files from you. The full version of your work and a so-called ‘Extract’. The extract serves to open up the deeper content of your work to the reader.
The extract should include:

  • The title page
  • The table of contents for the dissertation
  • Summaries in English and German
  • An introduction

The extract should be about 10-12 pages. If your work has a long introduction, you will need to shorten it for the extract.

Please submit unprotected files. The two files that will become available via the catalogue for later use will be given a password by the library and as such, protected against changes.

Please provide the electronic version on a disk which can remain in the library. As long as the files are not larger than 10MB (if necessary, compressed as a zipped file), you can also send it via e-mail to the address:  diss-edok[at]tib.uni-hannover.de

Please, if possible, submit the electronic version and paper copies simultaneously. Processing can only take place if both versions are available.

If you submit the copies that are required in person, please make sure that you arrange a date with the dissertation team. When submitting work, you will first get a receipt and then, no later than 2 weeks afterwards, a response, stating whether or not the submitted files are in order. The final confirmation slip and a printed copy will then be forwarded by the dissertations team to the appropriate university faculty. On the basis of this, the certificate can be issued.
To schedule an appointment for submission or address additional questions you may have, please contact the dissertations team by telephone (0511) 762-3434. If you want to deposit copies of your dissertation impersonally, you can send them to us by post. In this case, enclose Appendix 2, fully completed.
