Special collection Trade Union literature

This special collection on the trade union movement with a stock of approximately 10,000 volumes comprises social science works and trade union materials on the history and politics of the movement's organization. It is developed in collaboration with the LUH’s Social Sciences Institutes and the Deutscher Gewerkschaftsbund DGB (i.e. German Federation of Trade Unions).
References to the materials are given in the library catalogue. The majority of the items can be found in the FBS's open access shelves filed under the notation "M".
A sub-stock of the collection, the Trade Union Archive with 6,500 volumes, comprises a virtually complete collection of the company reports, minutes, series of publications, journals, and press reports of the trade unions of the Federal Republic of Germany. It is possible to perform searches in an online-database of the  Documentation Centre for European Trade Union Publications for articles from trade union journals. Particularly thorough documentation is available on the establishment of the trade unions in Lower Saxony from 1945 - 1948 and in Saxony-Anhalt from 1989 - 1992.

Documentation on the Development of trade union and company interest groups in the new Federal “Länder” (1980-1994)
This development process was launched in the area of tension of different trade union, economic and social interest groups whose positions on constituting trade unions and works- and staff councils are documented. The participation of the West German trade unions is especially documented by the example of the DGB district Lower Saxony/Bremen which was in charge of the trade union development in the new Federal “Land” Saxony-Anhalt.
The development of the interest groups furthermore took place parallel to a radical economic and sociopolitical structural change in the context of building the German Unification. The trade union politics focused on this process are also documented in detail. The reform process inside the trade unions is presented with the attitude of the trade union towards the three socio-economic fringe groups  women, foreigners and unemployed.
The relevant literature is listed in the database Bibliothek. A collection of internal materials (such as interviews) of the trade union development process particularly in Saxony-Anhalt can be viewed on site on the basis of scientific interest.
