Media and information service Specialist (m/f)
The 3 year training programme as Fachangestellter für Medien- und Informationsdienste FAMI (i.e. Media and information service specialist) is a state-approved professional training programme. It is offered in the public service and in private business in five areas of specialization:
- Archive
- Stock photo agency
- Library
- Information and documentation
- Medical documentation
The occupational image is are described in detail in the database Berufenet at the Bundesagentur für Arbeit (i.e. Federal employment office). According to the Berufsbildungsgesetz (i.e. Vocational training act), the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz library is the "competent office" for the area of public service in Lower Saxony and handles the pertinent tasks in the framework of the industrial training.
The training programme with specialization “Library” is carried out at the TIB/UB Hanover. Training is effected using the so-called “dual system”: the practical training takes place here at the library, while the theoretical training takes place at the Multi-Media-BBS.
Requirements for training as FAMI at the TIB/UB Hanover:
- Secondary school certificate of the “Realschule” with good grades in German and English
- Basic PC skills
- Team player
- Interest in dealing with books and other media, enjoyment in service work in direct contact with our customers
