Use

The Hanover university archive is a public archive in the sense of the
Niedersächsische Archivgesetzes (i.e. Archive act of Lower Saxony) from 25 May 1993 in the version from 5 November 2004.
Since an own set of terms of use has not yet been issued for the university archive, the terms of use for the public records offices  in Lower Saxony apply until further notice, in as far as they are applicable for the university archive.

According to this, each person has the right to use the archive for official and scientific purposes as well as in the case of any other legitimate interest. Use is to be applied for at the university archive together with an indication of the purpose of use. The decision for use rests with the university archive, as well as any possible conditions and terms which such a permission for use would include. Currently, use is subject to advance, timely registration at the university archive (contact). The typical method of use for external users is personal viewing in the reading room of building 2 of the TIB/UB in Laatzen/Rethen. There is no entitlement to viewing archive material at any specific time or to seeing large quantities of archive material at the same time. As a rule, it is unfortunately not possible to make copies of archive materials; the decision on which cases may constitute an exception rests with the university archive.
